Retractable Mosquito Nets

A retractable mosquito net winds onto a spring-loaded roller inside a slim aluminum tube mounted to one side of the window, similar in principle to a roller net but running horizontally instead of top-to-bottom. Pull the mesh across and clip it in place to close the window; release the clip and it winds back into the tube, completely out of sight.

Best for: windows where the view matters when the screen is not in use — a living room or bedroom window where a visible frame or cassette would interrupt the sightline. Because the tube is slim (45 mm) and sits flush to one side, it reads as part of the window frame rather than an add-on.

Compared to roller nets: both wind into a hidden cassette on a spring, but a roller net does it vertically from a tube above the window, while a retractable net does it horizontally from a tube at the side. The choice usually comes down to the window shape: wide, short windows suit the vertical roller better; tall windows suit the horizontal retractable better.

• Does it seal as tightly as a fixed frame when closed? The clip mechanism holds the mesh taut across the opening; it will not be quite as rigid as a bolted frame, but it seals well enough to stop insects reliably.
• Can it be opened partway, or is it all-or-nothing? It can be pulled across and clipped at intermediate points along the track, not just fully open or fully closed.
• What happens if the spring loses tension over time? The cassette is a sealed, replaceable unit — if the retraction slows down, the cassette is swapped rather than repaired individually.
