Roller Pergola Fly Mesh

Roller mesh suits structures with a substantial roof beam to mount into, whether that beam belongs to a freestanding pergola or a house-attached veranda. The cassette sits inside or against the beam profile, largely hidden until deployed, and the mesh drops straight down when needed.

On a pergola: for pergolas with substantial roof framing (timber around 200×100mm or an aluminum equivalent), the cassette mounts inside the beam profile, so looking up at the roof you see mostly the beam, not mesh hardware. A weighted bottom bar seals against the pergola floor without needing floor tracks.

On a veranda: the same top-mount principle applies from the veranda roof beam down to the floor, and because veranda use tends to vary through the day, from full breeze in the morning to full enclosure for an evening meal, the roller can typically be stopped at any height between fully open and fully dropped, not just the two extremes.

Operation: a counter-rotating spring mechanism, or a motor on larger spans, allows partial deployment; the weighted bottom bar can double as a manual handle on spring-operated versions, pull down to the height you want, release, and the brake holds that position.

• Does the roof beam need to be a specific size for roller mesh to work? The beam needs to be substantial enough to house the cassette; the installer checks your specific beam dimensions at the site visit.
• Can the mesh be stopped partway down rather than fully open or fully closed? Yes, on both pergola and veranda installations, the brake or motor holds any intermediate position.
• Does a floor track get in the way when the mesh is retracted? No, the weighted bottom bar seals against the floor without a track, so there is nothing to step over when the mesh is up.

Beam compatibility: not every roof beam is deep enough to fully hide a top-mount cassette; the installer checks your specific beam profile at the site visit and, where the beam is too shallow, will recommend an alternative mechanism such as a side-mounted retractable system instead.

Servicing: the cassette sits at the beam edge rather than being fully enclosed within the beam structure, so routine checks and mesh replacement, if ever needed, are accessible without disturbing the roof framing itself.
