Sliding Mosquito Nets

A sliding mosquito net is a fly screen mounted on its own aluminum track, running parallel to your existing sliding glass door. It moves the same way the glass does — push it along the track to open or close — and stays flat against the wall or a slim side pocket when fully open, rather than folding.

Best for: wide patio and balcony openings, especially pool-side glass walls and sea-view balconies where the full width needs to stay operable. Because the track runs straight, sliding nets handle openings up to about 4 metres without the extra moving parts a folded screen needs at that width.

Compared to pleated nets: a pleated net folds into a narrow side cassette and suits doors you walk through several times a day, since the accordion opens in one motion. A sliding net has fewer moving parts, just rollers on a track, which makes it the steadier choice for very wide openings or ones that stay open for long stretches, a covered terrace for example, where a fold mechanism would see more wear over the years.

Specs: aluminum track profile, 35 mm; German fiberglass mesh, 18×16 weave, 0.18 mm wire; stainless steel rollers on sealed bearings; supports openings up to roughly 4 m wide, exact limit depends on height and the profile system fitted; 1–2 day installation.

Dubai context: sealed bearings matter here specifically because of blown sand and dust, not heat. An exposed roller picks up grit fast on ground-floor villas near open plots or during shamal winds, and once grit gets into an unsealed bearing the screen starts sticking within a season. For pool-side or sea-facing installations, Marina, JBR, Al Khan, the same sealing also keeps salt air out of the moving parts. For pool areas specifically, chlorinated humidity is the other factor: it dries out rubber seals faster than plain sea air, which is why the roller seals matter as much as the frame finish on pool-facing installs.

• Will it interfere with the glass door track? No. The net runs on its own separate track, mounted alongside or in front of the existing glass door track, not inside it.
• Can one screen cover a very wide opening, or does it need to be split? Very wide openings, over roughly 4 metres, usually need two panels meeting in the middle rather than one continuous screen. Your installer confirms the split point for your exact opening during the free measurement.
• Does sand get into the track? Some does in exposed installations. The sealed rollers keep it out of the bearings, but the track itself benefits from an occasional wipe, more often after a sandstorm.
