Roller Mosquito Nets

A roller mosquito net is a fly screen mesh stored in a slim aluminum cassette mounted above the window. Pull the mesh down by its bottom bar to cover the opening, and it retracts back up into the cassette on its own spring when released — no folding, no sliding sideways.

Best for: kitchen and bathroom windows, and any smaller opening where a side cassette for a pleated or sliding net would not fit. Because it moves vertically, it does not need any side clearance at all.

Compared to pleated and sliding nets: both of those move sideways and need a cassette or track along one edge of the frame. A roller net needs that space along the top instead, which is why it is the default choice for narrow windows above a kitchen sink or in a bathroom, where there is no spare width on either side for a side-mounted system.

Keeping it running smoothly: the bottom bar is the part that takes the most handling, so a light wipe of the guide channels on either side every few months stops dust building up and keeps the pull-down motion even. If the mesh starts retracting unevenly on one side before the other, that channel is usually where the buildup is. On dusty sites, that same channel check is worth doing monthly rather than seasonally.

• Does it block how far the window itself opens? No, the roller net sits in front of the window opening and does not attach to the window sash, so the window still opens to its normal range.
• Does the spring mechanism wear out? The spring is rated for years of daily use; if it ever slows down, the cassette is a sealed unit that gets replaced rather than repaired piece by piece.
• Can it fit small or irregular window shapes? Rectangular openings of almost any size are straightforward; unusual shapes (arched or angled tops) usually need a fixed frame instead — ask during the free measurement.
