Pleated Mosquito Nets

A pleated mosquito net is a fly screen with an accordion-folded mesh panel that stacks into a slim side cassette, about 4 cm wide, when you open the door or window. Unlike a fixed frame screen, it takes up almost no space when retracted — the reason it is the standard choice for patio doors and wide sliding openings in Dubai villas and apartments.

Best for: openings you walk through often — patio doors, balcony doors, and villa entrances — where a fixed frame would block the doorway. The accordion mesh compresses to one side, so the full width of the opening stays clear when the screen is open.

Compared to sliding nets: a sliding net moves on a straight track parallel to the glass and keeps a flat profile in both positions, which suits very wide openings, up to about 4 metres, where you want the screen to disappear to one side without folding. A pleated net folds instead of sliding flat, so it needs less side clearance but has more moving parts (the fold hinges) to maintain over years of daily use. For openings under 3 metres that get opened and closed several times a day, most Dubai households find the pleated fold quicker to operate one-handed.

Specs: anodized aluminum frame, 25 mm profile; German fiberglass mesh, 18×16 weave, 0.18 mm wire; fits openings up to roughly 3.5–4 m wide depending on height and the profile system fitted; 1–2 day installation.

Dubai context: anodizing matters more here than in most climates. The fiberglass mesh itself does not rust, but the frame and fold mechanism do if the anodized finish is thin, so that is the spec worth checking before you buy, not just the mesh count.
